Biography
Steven is the head of the Commercial and Property Litigation team at Irwin Mitchell in Sheffield. He has been a Partner at the firm since 2005.
He is an experienced practitioner, recognised as an expert in the fields of commercial dispute resolution and litigation in The Legal 500. He deals with most aspects of commercial and property litigation and now heads the department of over 25 lawyers in Sheffield.
Steven has experience of High and County Court matters as well as in the Court of Appeal and is a keen advocate of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) having dealt with numerous mediations.
In addition to traditional commercial litigation work, Steven and his team are panel solicitors for a number of well known insurers dealing with disputes for individuals, businesses and charities who have the benefit of a legal expense insurance policy.
Steven has also recently been involved in developing bespoke funding arrangements for clients working with household name insurers, specialising in the provision of After The Event (ATE) Litigation Costs Insurance. He also advises companies and individuals in relation to their legal obligations and provides guidance on a pro-active basis with a view to assisting businesses to avoid litigation in the future.
Steven qualified as a solicitor in 1996.

- Recent cases include appearing in the Court of Appeal in one of the lead commercial insurance cases; Brown-Quinn & Another v Equity Syndicate Management Limited & Another [2012] EWCA Civ 1633 and on the issue of the duties of a solicitor at a mediation; Frost v Wake Smith [2013] EWCA Civ 1960.
