Foot Care
If you’ve been diagnosed with diabetes, you’ll no doubt be aware of the importance of foot care.
What may seem like a harmless cut might lead to a more serious infection. Left untreated, ulcers might get worse, and, in extreme cases, an amputation might be needed.
It’s vital that diabetic people receive adequate wound care and podiatry.
Retinopathy
Retinopathy, a disease of the retina, is a common complication of diabetes. If the blood vessels in the retina become damaged, prompt treatment is the key to retaining maximum vision.
Diabetic people should receive regular eye screening as part of a health check.
Urological Problems
Blood vessels in the kidneys can cause problems if they become blocked. Without treatment, infections develop, and the kidneys don’t function properly. This can lead to much more serious problems and, in severe cases, kidney failure.
Cardiovascular Problems
Someone with diabetes has an increased risk of developing cardiovascular problems. This includes strokes and heart attacks, so it’s important that blood pressure is kept under control.
