What To Expect When You Make A Medical Negligence Claim
When you make a claim with us you’re our priority. We’ll fight to make sure you get what you need to make the best recovery possible, and that you get the compensation you deserve.
Our first job will be to investigate your treatment concerns as soon as possible. We also understand that you may have financial worries due to being unable to work, or needing to care for a loved one.
We’ll work to get an early admission of responsibility from the NHS or private healthcare provider. This will then allow us to get early (interim) compensation payments while your case progresses.
Interim payments can be used to ease any immediate financial worries you may have, and to cover medical or care expenses.
We’ll also offer you help from one of our Support & Rehabilitation specialists. This is a support service to help make your life easier while your claim is ongoing. Your Support & Rehabilitation specialist can help with everything from identifying mobility aids that might make your life easier, to helping you access state benefits.
Medical negligence claims can be complex – and it could take a few years for your claim to settle. The reason claims can take this long to settle is that we need to understand how well you’re able to recover, and the impact of your injuries on your life.
While your claim is going through you can rest assured that we’ll be there to support you every step of a way.

Northamptonshire Man Left Permanently Injured Following Delay In Diagnosing Cauda Equina Syndrome
Retiring from work should be an exciting time with lots to look forward in the future. Unfortunately for Trevor, this proved not to be the case. Former music teacher, Trevor developed Cauda Equina Syndrome while on holiday, just days after he had told his employer he planned to retire. Trevor first experienced a twinge in his back, which worsened over the next couple of days. He started having difficulties with walking and passing urine. On the third day, Trevor was in such unbearable pain that he could not get out of bed. An ambulance was called and he was taken to A&E at Coventry Hospital. Trevor was told that he likely had a sciatic nerve problem and to see his GP if he was not better in one week.
When Trevor returned home, he needed a Zimmer frame to help him get around and was unable to manage the stairs. He couldn’t get comfortable and struggled to sleep.
A week later, Trevor couldn’t cope with the pain anymore and went to see his GP. His GP advised that Trevor should return to hospital, and so Trevor attended the A&E Department at Leicester Royal Infirmary. An MRI Scan was performed and demonstrated Cauda Equina Syndrome, a compression of the spinal cord. Trevor was taken for emergency surgery to ease the compression.
As a result of the failure by doctors at Coventry Hospital to fully investigate Trevor’s symptoms and diagnose Cauda Equina Syndrome, Trevor experienced an alleged 7 day delay in having surgery. As a consequence, he has been left with restricted mobility (pain when walking upstairs and uphill, and random neuropathic pain), urinary retention requiring intermittent self catheterisation 4/5 times a day and a neurogenic bowel requiring trans-anal irrigation to empty his colon.
Trevor has now been awarded a six-figure sum in compensation to help him with his rehabilitation and to make the most of his retirement.
Luke Daniels, specialist medical negligence lawyer representing Trevor, said: “The past few years have been incredibly difficult for Trevor, firstly developing Cauda Equina Syndrome and then being left with ongoing issues after this was not diagnosed and operated on. While there is nothing we can do to turn back the clock and change what Trevor has gone through, it’s vital that lessons are learned to help prevent others from suffering like he has.
