What To Expect When You Make A Medical Negligence Claim
We understand the emotions you may be experiencing if you’ve suffered medical negligence. You may have worries about the future, your recovery, as well as the financial impact of your injuries. Our solicitors are here to help you – not only in getting the compensation you deserve, but also in helping you make the best recovery possible.
When you make a medical negligence claim with us, our priority is you. We’ll immediately start work on investigating your treatment concerns with a view to getting an early admission of fault from the NHS or private healthcare provider responsible for your injuries. If we can get that admission, it usually means we can get an interim compensation payment to help pay for your care, and ease any immediate financial worries you may have.
We can also assign you one of our Support & Rehabilitation specialists. Their role is to help make your life easier – from completing benefit applications, through to introducing you to local charity/support groups. Our Support & Rehabilitation teams have considerable knowledge, and can identify things you might need to help with your recovery – and how we can go about getting them for you (for instance getting a wheelchair ramp installed at your home).
Depending on the complexity of your claim, medical negligence cases can take a few years to settle. This is because we need to see how well you’re able to recover from your injuries, and assess the longer term impact on your life. Settling a claim too early could mean you get less compensation than you’re entitled to.
Our specialist team will be with you through every step of the process, and will fight to get you what you need.

Lessons To Be Learned After Report Finds Bristol Surgeon ‘Harmed’ More Than 200 People
An official review into 387 cases of mesh surgery performed by Tony Dixon concluded 203 patients suffered harm.
An investigation was launched by North Bristol NHS Trust into the Bristol surgeon’s practice after concerns were raised about the standard of laparoscopic ventral mesh rectopexy (LVMR) procedures.
A review looked at cases between 2007 and 2017, when Mr Dixon performed operations at Southmead Hospital and the privately-run Spire Hospital under NHS waiting list arrangements. The report said these patients suffered “harm”.
Mr Dixon was sacked by North Bristol Trust in 2019.
Our specialist lawyers still represent about 80 patients who were operated on by Tony Dixon. We’ve secured settlements for several others so they can get the specialist care they need.
“While we welcome the Trust’s transparency in publishing its findings and its pledge to learn lessons, it’s vital that meaningful action is now taken to improve patient safety. This includes learning lessons from those patients who have reported suffering significant harm, but who received treatment other than by LVMR.
“We continue to support our clients at this emotional time and are determined to ensure they can access the specialist care and support they require to try and move on with their lives the best they can.” - Luke Trevorrow, Associate Solicitor
