Understanding Rehabilitation
If you make a personal injury claim with us, we will of course work hard to help you get the compensation you need. But we also know that you might need specialist medical care, rehabilitation (rehab) and support.
After decades of working on compensation claims, we’ve seen how rehab makes a huge difference to the lives of our clients. Our expert solicitors work with case managers, our support and rehabilitation team, support groups and care providers to help you get the care and rehabilitation you need.
What Rehab Does For Our Clients
For many clients, rehab gives them the independence they lost because of their injuries or illness. Read some of the stories from our recent clients and the rehabilitation care they have received to help get their lives back on track.
You can also follow the story of our client Jacqueline ‘Jaxx’ Cave who's made a remarkable recovery since suffering from multiple head injuries as a result of a road accident. Watch our online mini series below and follow Jaxx in her road to recovery.

What We Will Do For You
First, we talk to you. We find out what you want to achieve and what’s important to you and your family. Rehab works best with your support and with the support of your loved ones, so we go to great lengths to make sure you’re happy with your programme of support.
Once we understand what you want to get out of the rehab programme, we will plan your treatment. This may mean we refer you to a specialist case manager who will assess your needs or one of our Support and Rehabilitation team. If you already have rehab treatment on the NHS, we will work alongside the NHS to help you access any other care and support that you need.
The NHS does a great job of looking after people who are injured. Unfortunately though, you might not always get the rehab you need. Certain parts of the country don’t have the resources to offer all the necessary rehab services.
Our team are the country’s foremost legal experts on rehabilitation, with partner Colin Ettinger appearing in The Times talking about how rehabilitation services can be improved (as originally seen in the report on Rehabilitation published by Raconteur Media on 17 February 2015 in The Times).
Our Support and Rehabilitation Team
Rehab means different things to different clients. Some people want to be able to return to work, while others want to become more independent around the house. Whatever rehab means to you, you can rest assured that we will work to help you access the specialist care that you need at an early stage in your claim.
Our support and rehabilitation coordinators are clinical specialists who will work with you to help you be as independent as possible. We get them involved early in your case, as they understand the specific care that you need and will help you access it.

Accreditation & Awards
"They have a fantastic, client-focused approach where nothing is too much trouble. They are very rehabilitation-focused, and the practice understands the roles and challenges of the treating team. They are always efficient and effective in all communications." - Chambers & Partners, 2018
We're delighted to have been named Claimant Solicitor of the Year in the 2016 Post Magazine Rehabilitation First Awards, an award we've now won seven times.
At the 2014 awards, head judge and editor of Post Stephanie Denton said: “The Rehabilitation First Judges found themselves in an usual situation this year when judging the Rehabilitation Initiative of the Year - Claimant Solicitor category. There was one outstanding entry which the judges felt deserved to be recognized but didn’t fit the traditional claimant solicitor category. In fact it went well beyond this and showed a truly collaborative approach between an insurance firm and a claimant solicitor. For this reason the judges decided to change this award this year to an Insurer and Solicitor Collaboration of the Year award and award it to Ageas and Irwin Mitchell.”
Our support and rehabilitation coordinators were also nominated in the “Unsung Rehabilitation Champions of the Year” category in 2014, recognising the development of new and innovative roles within organisations like ours. In these roles, people who aren’t necessarily medically trained or formally employed as case managers play a big part in making a difference to the lives of others through supporting effective rehabilitation.
