What To Expect When You Make A Medical Negligence Claim
When you make a medical negligence claim with us, we’ll put your best interests at the heart of everything we do. Our top priority will be to try and get you everything you need to make the best recovery possible.
We’ll investigate your treatment concerns and contact your NHS or private provider with a view to getting an early admission of liability. This early admission can be vital in helping you access compensation as soon as possible.
For medical negligence claims involving life-changing injuries, it can take a few years for your case to go through. This is because we need to see how well you’ll recover from your injuries. Settling too soon could mean that you get less compensation than you need over the longer term.
While your claim is going through, we’ll be by your side every step of the way. Alongside the legal process of making a claim, our Support & Rehabilitation team can help with your day to day needs. This could include putting you in touch with local charities and support groups, or accessing local authority funding to help you make adaptations to your home.

£16.45m Compensation For Brain Damaged Boy
Our client suffered brain damage after midwifery staff failed to provide proper postnatal care.
The boy was born in 2005 at Southampton’s Princess Anne Hospital, before being moved to another hospital for postnatal care. His mum noticed that her son was having problems feeding and made several requests for help.
Sadly these requests were ignored until the boy became seriously ill. He was returned to Princess Anne Hospital where he was treated for neonatal hypoglycaemia – a very dangerous condition caused when lack of feeding leads to low sugar levels.
The delays in the boy’s treatment have left him with neurological injuries. These include epilepsy as well as visual, mobility, learning and behavioural issues.
The boy’s family asked our Southampton Medical Negligence solicitors for help. After we took their case to the High Court, University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust agreed to compensation of £16.45 million.
This money will help provide 24 hour care for the rest of the boy’s life as well as equipment and therapies. It also reflects the fact that he’ll never be able to get full-time employment.
“While nothing can make up for the failures that led to our son’s condition, we are relieved that he is now guaranteed to receive the lifetime of care he so desperately needs.”
Our client’s mum
“The settlement will now fund my client’s care for the rest of his life, enabling him to live as independently as he possibly can.
I hope that lessons are learned from the mistakes that were made in this case in order to improve patient safety in the future.”
