Hairdressing Compensation Claims

Trustpilot

When you go to a hair salon you expect trained staff to carry out your treatment in a professional manner. However, sometimes treatments can go wrong and cause you harm. If you’ve suffered an injury at a hair salon, our expert solicitors are here to help.

Injuries in the hairdressing industry are often caused by inexperienced stylists performing tasks and using equipment they haven’t been trained for.

Hair salons make use of products that have harmful chemicals (such as hair bleaches) and when these products aren’t used correctly they can cause scalp injuries, hair damage or hair loss.

Our expert solicitors have experience in hairdressing compensation claims for the following injuries:

  • Allergic reactions to dyes and styling products
  • Cuts, scarring and lacerations from sharp objects used in the salon
  • Scalp irritation and skin damage from chemicals being used incorrectly
  • Burns from faulty or incorrect use of equipment
  • Loss of hair, traction alopecia and bald patches
  • Dermatitis - sore or swollen skin from over exposure to harsh chemicals

How Much Compensation Can I Get?

This depends on the injuries and financial losses you’ve suffered. Every injury is different, and your circumstances will be unique to you. We offer a free initial consultation where we’ll discuss your situation and how this can affect your compensation.

Can I Make A No Win No Fee Claim?

Yes. Most of our personal injury claims are taken on a No Win No Fee basis. This means you can make a claim with no financial risk*.

Our expert solicitors have helped many people who’ve suffered an injury or reaction because of negligent treatment by a hairdresser. We understand that this is a difficult time for you, and we’ll support you throughout the claims process. We can also provide assistance if you need access to medical care and treatment.

Hairdressing Compensation Claims - More Information

The first stage is a free initial consultation where we’ll talk about your claim and how we might be able to help. After this, we’ll discuss different ways of funding your case including No Win No Fee agreements*.

We’ll collect a variety of evidence to support your case including advice from industry experts about how your procedure should have been done and what corrective treatment might be needed. We’ll use the evidence to calculate how much compensation we think you’ll need to cover any corrections and other expenses (such as travel costs).

Our team will present their findings to the organisation responsible for your injury. They’ll be asked to explain what happened and whether they believe they were at fault. If they accept responsibility, we’ll try to negotiate a compensation package that best suits your needs.

We’ll work hard to find out what guidelines needed to be followed by the hairdresser and why things went wrong. Our solicitors have the knowledge and contacts needed to be successful with your claim and we’ll keep you informed throughout.

Your compensation should cover any money you lost because of your injury. This includes losses from not being able to work, and any medical treatment you need. It should also provide for the pain and suffering caused.

If the person or business you’re claiming against doesn’t accept fault, we’ll start court proceedings. Even if this does happen, most claims are still settled out of court before the trial.

A No Win No Fee agreement means you won’t have to pay anything upfront when you make a claim.*

If your case is successful, our legal costs will be taken from your compensation, and your opponent will pay most of your fees. If your claim isn’t successful, you won’t have to pay any costs.

Find out more about No Win No Fee claims.

You should make a claim within three years of your injury. If you’re under the age of 18, you have until you are 21 to make a claim.

Rosie Mayes, Personal Injury Client

The compensation means that I can have the care that I really need rather than what’s provided as a bare minimum."

Frequently Asked Questions

What Is A Strand Test?

Before applying certain treatments, a hairdresser should test it on a small patch or strand of your hair.

This is to check for allergies, and to make sure your hair is suitable for treatment.

Performing a strand test is part of a hairdresser’s responsibility. If they don’t, and you suffer an allergic reaction or your hair is damaged by the treatment, it shows they’ve acted negligently.

If you haven’t been given a strand test and suffer an injury or reaction, we could help you make a claim. Call us on 0800 056 4110 or contact us online.

What Is Traction Alopecia?

Traction alopecia is a type of hair loss caused by a ‘pulling force’ on the hair follicles.

The most common causes are incorrect application of hair extensions (especially when glue is used), braiding and weaving plaits close to the scalp.

Traction alopecia happens over a long period of time and it can be difficult to prove negligence if different hair stylists are used. However, our solicitors understand how distressing hair loss can be and we’ll make sure we give your case every chance of success.

If you feel you’ve suffered an injury caused by a hairdresser or hair stylist then contact us on 0800 056 4110 or contact us online.

What Can I Do To Help My Claim?

If you’ve suffered an injury, you should get medical attention as soon as possible.

Please take photos of your injuries, and keep any receipts from the hair salon. This will help us confirm where your injury took place.

Ca I Make A Claim If I'm Under 18?

If you’re under 18 or have a child under 18 you can still make a claim.

A claim must be made on your or your child’s behalf by a ‘litigation friend’. The court can appoint anyone to be a litigation friend, including:

  • Parents and guardians
  • Family members and friends who are over 18
  • Solicitors
  • Professional advocates (e.g. an Independent Mental Capacity Advocate - IMCA)
  • Court of Protection deputies
  • Someone who has lasting power of attorney

The court will always check the suitability of a litigation friend and will ensure that their interests don’t conflict with those of the child. They will also make sure that they can make decisions relating to the case in a fair and competent way.

If the court grants a person permission to be a litigation friend, we’ll always contact them with any information regarding the case. They’ll also be responsible for telling the child what’s happening and listening to what they want and how they feel about the case.

If you would like to make a claim on behalf of a child, contact us today on 0800 056 4110 or contact us online.
