Why do I have to have a medical examination?
An examination by a medical expert will support your claim. The report outlines:
- Your injuries
- Your future medical and care needs
- What extra medical evidence your claim needs
- Recommended treatments, such as physiotherapy
- How the injury has affected your day-to-day life, your ability to work, or how it has disrupted your domestic, leisure and sporting activities.
This will help decide how much compensation you need to recover, so the medical report is a vital part of your claim.
Who does the examination?
We work with a number of medical experts who specialise in a range of different fields. You’ll be examined by someone with specialist knowledge and experience with your injuries.
For example, if you’ve suffered simple soft tissue injuries we will instruct a General Practitioner with experience in preparing reports for these types of injuries. If you’ve suffered a broken arm or leg, your examination may be carried out by a specialist orthopaedic consultant.
If you’ve suffered a spinal injury, you may see a specialist neurological consultant. All of the experts that we work with are experienced in preparing medical reports for personal injury claims. You can rest assured that they know exactly what to look for to make sure your injuries, pain and suffering are reflected in the report.
What's involved in the examination?
The medical expert will examine you and discuss the details of the accident. They'll ask about the pain you've suffered, and how your injuries have affected your day-to-day life.
In more serious cases they’ll review your previous medical records. They’ll also decide what treatment you’ll need in the future, and may refer you to other experts if needed.
We’ll arrange for the medical examination to be as close as possible to your home to make sure you can attend without any added inconvenience.
Who pays for the examination?
We'll pay for your examination. We’ll ask for your opponent to repay us for this expense at the end of your claim.
